With over 18 years experience as a professional ecologist and land manager Les has been involved with managing a range of sites, most notably the Eden Estuary LNR/SSSI/SPA/SAC in Fife. In addition to his wide knowledge on coastal and estuarine matters he has specialised in areas such as golf course biodiversity, wetland creation and management, as well as developing a range of survey techniques for plants, birds, bats and other species. He has a depth of experience in interpretation, education, management planning, planning applications and processes, outdoor access and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. He is a licensed bat worker and bird ringer. Les has acted as advisor on a number of radio and television documentaries, as well as publishing a range of material that includes scientific papers, project reports, species accounts in the Birds of Fife and the forthcoming Birds of Scotland, as well as local press releases and articles for various magazines. He has overseen the establishment of a major interpretive centre at Guardbridge, as well as a number of other interpretive projects around Fife. Practical projects include a major beach nourishment project at the West Sands, St Andrews, the creation of a variety of wetlands and various bat mitigation projects under Scottish Executive licence. Les’s addition to our network means we can offer a broad range of environmental survey work with associated report production, environmental impact assessments, mitigation reports, interpretation planning and expertly led natural history tours and talks, all underpinned by a sound ecological understanding and practical experience in land management.
